PM Modi reaction on attack of Slovakia PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack of Slovakia’s Prime Minister, HE Robert Fico, in Handlova on Thursday. He called it a cowardly and despicable act.
PM Modi expressed his shock over the incident and wished PM Fico a speedy recovery. He also stated that India stands in solidarity with the people of the Slovakia Republic.”
The Slovakia Prime Minister was shot and hospitalised on Wednesday following a cabinet meeting. The 59-year-old was shot five times, following which he was in critical condition. Following the attack, police sealed off the area, and Fico was transported to a hospital in Banska Bystrica, where he underwent surgery.
According to a Reuters report, Fico’s condition is no longer life-threatening. Aktuality.sk, a news outlet, mentioned an unnamed source who said Fico had finished surgery and is now stable.
So far, the police have detained a suspect in the case.
The incident happened just three weeks before the important European Parliament elections. During these elections, it’s expected that populist and hard-right parties in the 27-nation bloc will gain a lot of support.
EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen reaction on attack of Slovakia PM
Earlier, EU chief Ursula von der Leyen also spoke out against the “vile attack” on Fico. She said, “I strongly condemn the vile attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico. Such acts of violence shouldn’t happen in our society. They hurt democracy, which is our most important shared value. My thoughts are with PM Fico and his family,” von der Leyen wrote in a post on X.
